26 Feb

Oleander (Nerium), evergreen,  5-10 ft.,  cultivars available in white, pink, salmon and yellow, easy, blooms spring/summer, deer and drought resistant.

Nerium is  a genus containing only one evergreen shrub species. The foliage is comprised of pointed leaves that are medium green in color, and flowers are showy and colorful. All parts of the plant contain a milky juice that is highly poisonous if consumed.

Oleanders come from many parts of the Mediterranean region, and are well suited for the California climate. They tolerate intense sun, wind and extended drought. This plant does best in a sunny location with little supplemental water during the summer. Both full size and dwarf cultivars are available.
