Butterfly Bush

26 Feb

Butterfly Bush (Buddleia),  deciduous, 6-10 ft., purple flowers in summer, drought resistant, attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.

Butterfly Bush belongs to a diverse group of deciduous and evergreen plants, mostly shrubs and trees, that are found in Asia, Africa and North and South America. Butterfly Bush is fast growing, with arching branches and 10 to 12 inch panicles of flowers that vary in color from pale lilac to deep purple. Over two dozen cultivars have been developed to provide a range of foliage and flower color, as well as plant sizes to choose from. This is an excellent wildlife plant for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden. Fragrant Butterfly Bush (Buddleja asiatica) bears fragrant white flowers.
